My copy was getting a bit dog eared on #13, so I thought I would get a back up copy of the Chinese edition. Well, that was a BIG mistake. The Chinese version available here on Amazon is nowhere near the quality of this edition. The paper used on the Chinese version is tracing paper thin, so you can see the notes from the opposite pages bleed through, and IMO, very distracting and unusable for practice. The markings are in Chinese, which would be OK if the paper was of high quality. So, for those who would like to save a few bucks and get the Chinese Schott version, DON'T! Spend a few more bucks and stick with this edition. You won't regret it.

As I wrote for my review of volume 1, Schott produces excellent quality print scores with plenty of footnotes where applicable by Ligeti. For such complicated and compact scores, this reads excellent. The cover is not hardback but rather a more sturdy type of paper, the inside looks and smells like recycled paper, always a plus for me and the design is simple yet elegant.The fingering is correct, the text legible and the notes to the point and informative. A must have for all serious pianist out there.

These are the Ligeti etudes, and are worth getting for that reason alone, they are the hardest piano songs in the world. Etude 14 might not even be playable.That said, they aren't quite as enjoyable as the Chopin etudes. The music is atonal, and sometimes it is hard to hear anything but noise.The binding is stapled, and the paper is high quality, so it should last a while.
