I purchased this to replace the rusted and pitted steel shaft on my Tormek Supergrind 1200 (which is still serving me well). In fact, before Tormek thought of using stainless steel I had a custom stainless steel shaft made for my Tormek 10 years ago, for the very reason mentioned above (why use ordinary steel around water and especially when the stone retains water whilst resting on the shaft, who wants to take the stone off everytime to remove that moisture source?).Anyway, the machinist I used cut corners and machined the nylon bearings to suit the stock he chose, meaning the shaft had a different diameter between the two threaded ends. I only found this out after the shaft started developing a wobble due to worn bearings, only to realise the new bearings I purchased wouldn't fit.My only complaint is Tormek not including a stainless nut and washer on the friction wheel/honing wheel side. Luckily this side does not get wet often, unlike the grinding stone. So, I was able to reuse the original nut. This is a precision machined and finished item for restoring older tormek grinders and this shaft hopefully won't require any maintenance, other than removal to lube the nylon bearings every so often.Note: if buying this shaft for an older machine, the new bearings are slighlty different and now each has a single notch/pin on its circumference. This notch must be filed into the bottom of the holes located at each end of the housing (the old bearings were glued in to stop them from rotating, the new ones are a press fit - so do not file the notches too big and use a 1/8" needle file or use a dremel, instructions are included in the packaging) this will fix the bearings and stop them from rotating with the shaft.
