This is a well presented kit of useful thread repair inserts in a nicely made plastic box. The spring-type insert is perhaps the most well known thread repair style and Helicoil is probably the most well known brand. A classic example of antonomasia, it has become a the generic term for spring coil insert repairs to threaded holes.The set includes a simple instruction sheet, but in essence a repair requires drilling, tapping and using a special installation tool to install the spring type insert. This type of insert is not solid, it is essentially a spring that fits into the grooves of a freshly tapped hole.Holes are best drilled and tapped using a pillar drill to ensure correct orientation.The kit is complete with a supply of coils, installation tools, drills and taps. I docked the review a single star because a tap holder is not included.If you have never used a thread tap before I recommend you study the technique before trying to repair a critical component. Basically you should take care that the tap enters the hole squarely, use plenty of lubrication (a thin oil like 3 in One is ideal) and proceed in stages - a half to three quarters of a turn clockwise then a quarter of a turn back. This clears the swarf (metal particles) created.
