Took the birds a while to fathom it out but Goldfinches have led the way and it is now being used daily. Nice piece of equipment which I can recommend at the price.

n.b. As I understand it, success with goldfinches will only potentially be achieved if they are already in the area. We suspected that they were 'up the road' when we first bought a feeder/seed. That was a yellow-based feeder, the colour of which is rumoured to catch their eye on flying by. We went through a good few of this style courtesy of the squirrels around here, so swapped to this more heavy duty version. It took a little while for the goldfinches to accept and trust the new feeder...but they did...and the population started to grow.June 2025...we have baby goldfinches! The miffed squirrels have not yet fathomed this design, at the time of writing, but then they have had most of our cherries from the trees instead!ooOooIt is not the easiest to clean, but this large feeder holds roughly 500g of nyger seed, on my measure, and offers 6 perches with the tiny feeding hole above each that is aimed at the finches. The design has so far foxed the pesky squirrels that kept annihilating (i.e. gnawing) the previous design I had for our now growing number of goldfinches! The feeder, which is seemingly well made & tidily finished off, came ready to use, MINUS the seed, in an attractive cardboard box that measured 11 cm square x 40 cm. With a metal-type lid, which lifts and tips to the side to fill, the feeder is 48 cm long overall, including the non-adjustable height handle. The sturdy, transparent plastic-type tube has an inner diameter of 6 cm.The insert in the bottom stops the seed from collecting at the base and the loss to the ground is seemingly less.Subdued, the brand name is embossed on the lid.The current product detail above states:~ ‘Rust Resistant’Time will tell; any problems I will be back!
