I used to practice with a normal old british cardboard mute by Paxman (pretty good also). The Denis Wick practice mute is much better, much quieter and superbly finished and durable. There isn't that much else to say about it, except it's just a great product. Not to cheap in price but try it an you will love it, and of course your family will love it even more when you go crazy with de Strauss or Gliere horn concertos.

Ich habe ein Alexander 103 und der Stopfdämpfer von Dennis Wick hält nicht im Schalltrichter, sondern rutscht die ganze Zeit raus. Man muss permanent mit der Hand dagegendrücken, wenn man damit spielen will. Wenn man nur schnell was in den Noten notieren möchte, muss man jedes Mal den Dämpfer daneben ablegen, damit er nicht auf den Boden knallt, da er ja so lose drin sitzt und rausrutscht. Für Hornist*innen mit einem 103er nicht zu empfehen!

I own a few Denis Wick products and consider them all top value!This mute I purchased to use in my Mellophonium which has a very similar bell shape and size to a French Horn. It fits the bell perfect, however, my first note was similar to an infant trying to make a noise on a horn.I don't know what the cause s, but it's near impossible to play anything with any assemblance of musicality with that mute in.I also have a Yamaha Silent Brass for trumpet. I added a bit more spongy material to make it fit the bell of this horn, and it does, and I can play fine on that.So that's my story. Don't however take this rating as a slight against Denis Wick products. They're still my go to guys for my gear, problems with this mute notwithstanding.
